Location and geography

La Granja is located in the western part of the region of Cajamarca in northern Peru, in the Querocoto district of the Chota Province.  The site is nearly 1,000 kilometres from Lima.  The journey from Lima to Chiclayo by air and then by road up to La Granja can take up to nine hours, depending on the weather and road conditions.

The 7,400 hectare site is situated 2,000 metres above sea level.  The average temperature is 17.1°C. Average rainfall per year is 989 millimetres*.

Travel time

In order to get to La Granja, you have to depart from Chiclayo, capital of Lambayeque, in the coastal region near Cajamarca.

Lima to Chiclayo: one hour by plane. Eight hours by road (765 kilometres).

Chiclayo to La Granja: half an hour by helicopter. Eight or ten hours by road (218 kilometres).
