Building capacity, working with our partners
Skills for the future
Sodexho, the company that provides kitchen, laundry, and cleaning services to our exploration camp, trains each of its employees to develop skills in their area of specialization. At the same time as they sharpen their practical skills, the workers receive training in business development. The objective is that over the long-term they will be able to set up and operate their own micro-enterprises and provide services to the community, as well as to Rio Tinto-La Granja. The programs are particularly important in that they contribute to expanding the economic options of the people working in the camp, ensuring that they do not become overly dependent on Rio Tinto-La Granja as an employer.
Orus, the security services company, specializes local personnel by means of an intensive training program in security that is conducted in Lima. This process is then continued through presentations and short courses after they have begun work. The job opportunities available to this trained personnel are not only with Rio Tinto, but extend to other companies.
