Situation prior to the start of the Project (2006):
- There were no sanitation and sewage services.
- Only one health worker provided services to all the communities.
- Limited understanding of birth control, family planning, and sexual health issues.
Objectives of the health programme:
- Strengthen local public health institutions.
- Improve integral health services, in particular for women and children.
- Promote healthy habits in the communities.
Achievements:
- Signature and execution of cooperation agreements with the primary government authorities in the health sector: Regional Bureau of Health of Cajamarca and Sub-Regional Bureau of Health-Chota.
- Increased presence of the State in the area, through preventive health campaigns executed by MINSA (Ministry of Health) and ESSALUD (Social Security administration) in local communities: La Granja, La Pampa, La Iraca, Paraguay, el Sauce and Pariamarca.
