Education Programme

Situation prior to the start of the Project

  • Poor educational performance of student population (under 18 years of age).
  • Illiteracy of approximately 19 percent.
  • 46 percent of heads of household have only a primary school education (in 2007). A significant share of this group has not achieved this basic level of education.
  • Nine primary level public education institutions attend over 650 children and teenagers, with a shortage of teachers and teaching material.
  • Only one school with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.
  • There is no higher-level educational institution in the area. As a result, local youth with secondary educations do not have access to professional technical training or a university in the area.
