Education Programme

Situation prior to the start of the Project

Poor educational performance of student population (under 18 years of age).
Illiteracy of approximately 19 percent.
46 percent of heads of household have only a primary school education (in 2007). A significant share of this group has not achieved this basic level of education.
Nine primary level public education institutions attend over 650 children and teenagers, with a shortage of teachers and teaching material.
Only one school with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.
There is no higher-level educational institution in the area. As a result, local youth with secondary educations do not have access to professional technical training or a university in the area.
